Actor Gary Coleman died in Utah days after a brain hemorrhage, media reports say. He was 42.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the son of actress Dana Plato committed suicide nearly 11 years after his mother’s death from an overdose, according to ktla.com.
Now, three months later, tragedy has once again hit the Diff’rent Strokes family.
Two days after suffering from a intracranial hemorrhage at his home, Gary Coleman died at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center around noon today.
Gary Coleman died because Gary Coleman’s wife, Shannon Price, made the decision to take Coleman off life support.
The actor’s brother told TMZ earlier that Coleman had sustained injuries from a fall, although the hospital hasn’t confirmed this as of yet.
Gary Coleman is known primarily for his role in the above mentioned sitcom “Diff’rent strokes ,” which aired from 1979-1986. Dana Plato played his older sister on the show.
Coleman had numerous health problems throughout his life, and especially of late. Last fall, he contracted pneumonia after heart surgery; in January and February, he suffered from seizures. The February incident took place on the set of The Insider.
Gary Coleman had a congenital kidney disease, which was the primary reason for his small stature. As a result of the birth defect, he had two kidney transplants.
Shannon Price and her father issued a statement days before Gary Coleman died to the press indicating that Fary Coleman had been hospitalized for a head injury resulting from a fall.
His wife, Shannon Price, remained hopeful that he would recover until the end; she didn’t tell the media anything about how he fell, or even IF he fell. Her statement was simply that he was in critical condition for a medical emergency.
Shannon Price and Gary Coleman married in 2007.
