Tuesday Sept 9, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- A new study confirms that supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can help high blood pressure or hypertension.  Previous studies have shown omega-3 PUFA can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The current study found 3-month supplementation with omega 3 fatty acids was associated with a significant reduction in both the systolic and diastolic blood pressures, particularly among men.   A statistically significant reduction in blood pressure was noticed among non-diabetics and patients with hypertension. The current study was based on data from hypertensive patients visiting OPD of the Gulf Medical College Hospital in Ajman, UAE, during the period Jan-Dec 2012.  (David Liu, PHD) Shantakumari N, Eldeeb RA, Mabrouk Ibrahim SA, Sreedharan J, Otoum S.  Effect of PUFA on patients with hypertension: A hospital based study.  Indian Heart J. 2014 Jul-Aug;66(4):408-14.
