Researchers at Tufts University reported a small trial in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition to suggest that taking zinc supplements can help boost zinc levels and immunity in elderly people.  For the trial, 25 individuals were either assigned to take a multivitamin with 5 mg zinc only or a multivitamin plus 30 mg of zinc daily for three months. At the end of the trial, test results showed that zinc supplementation not only increased serum levels of zinc, but also the number and effectiveness of T-cells.  Zinc supplements can be particularly helpful for elderly people who are more likely than others to have low serum zinc levels and suffer pneumonia and die from the disease.Zinc supplements are readily available over the internet and local health stores or pharmacies.
