Beijing, China, 1 August 2014 -  Media registration is now open for the APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting, to be hosted in Beijing by China’s National Energy Commission.

Background:

APEC economies account for around 60 per cent of world energy consumption, are a net energy importer and facing rising demand needed to support higher living standards in the region and fuel economic growth amid landmark shifts in global production. The centrality of fossil fuels is meanwhile intensifying pressure to reduce emissions and build on improvements in energy efficiency that protect the environment and save businesses and consumers money.

APEC Ministers will take joint actions to promote sustainable energy development across the Asia-Pacific region. Areas of focus include strengthening energy security; boosting trade and investment in the sector; the delivery of greater efficiency and “smart,” low-carbon communities; and the development and deployment of clean and renewable energy technologies.
