Just this month, more than 30,000 people have signed EWG’s petition in support of growing more organics. But Big Ag isn’t getting the picture. Their industry front group, the Alliance for Food and Farming, is attacking EWG again as “anti-fruits and veggies.” But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
What we want is for all Americans to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables grown without the use of toxic pesticides. That is why we are calling on Congress to invest more in growing organics!
Despite double digit growth on supermarket shelves, organic agriculture currently takes up less than ONE PERCENT of American farmland. Supplies of organic produce are so low that big retailers like Costco can’t keep enough on the shelves. It’s clear that American consumers want to buy more organic foods, but we need to get the message to our legislators on Capitol Hill. Will you add your name to EWG’s petition and help us get to 50,000 signatures before May 1?
For years, EWG has warned the public of the dangers of certain pesticides. These chemicals are not only bad for our health, but they’re also seriously damaging to our environment. More organic farming means fewer toxic synthetic pesticides on our land and in our food and water. It’s that simple.
Big Ag and industry organizations like the Alliance for Food and Farming are attacking EWG because they don’t want organic farming to grow. But Americans are already voting with their wallets – and we won’t let them silence us.
Thanks for fighting with us.
Colin O'Neil
Agriculture Policy Director, EWG
