No matter who wins in November, CFS will be there in January. Help CFS hold the next President accountable.
In this topsy-turvy political season, the issues that matter most have often taken a backseat to the latest controversies. Thanks to supporters like you, we’re beginning to change that.
Last week, thousands of CFS members voted on five questions about the candidates’ food and agriculture policies. The most popular of the five questions – “Do you support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods?” – drew 9,425 votes, ranking in at number 68 out of nearly 16,000 questions. There’s clearly a strong undercurrent of interest in where the major party presidential candidates stand on these issues.
While Sunday’s debate did not address the questions that matter most to our movement, we’re making it clear: our leaders must be allies in our fight for pollinators, GMO labeling, human health and the environment. Three months from now, the next President will take office. It’s up to us to once again pressure her or him on these issues of paramount importance to you and your family.
We can’t count on the media to highlight the decline of pollinators or the dangers of mega-mergers between giant agricultural and chemical companies. It takes dogged organizing and a team of advocates willing to champion food safety from the statehouses to the courthouses.
Monsanto has its team of 24 lobbyists, in DC alone. They may hire even more lobbyists to get their merger with Bayer approved. We won't match their spending, but we can counter with the power of the grassroots. That's why we count on supporters like you.
Thank you for your support throughout this year. Together, we can raise awareness on issues that affect consumers, farmers, and the environment, and make progress toward a safer, more sustainable food system in the Halls of Congress and beyond.
With much appreciation,
The Center for Food Safety team
