A new study report suggests that a dietary supplement called EDiSON may help men with moderate erectile dysfunction (ED).

As a commercialized dietary supplement, EDiSON contains the following ingredients, according to the study report.

Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer extract

Lepidium meyenii root extract

yeast extract

egg white peptide

Mucuna pruriens extract

black ginger extract

polyphenol

l-arginine

l-carnitine

coenzyme Q10

vitamin E

black pepper extract

and zinc

The dietary supplement was tested in two clinical trials, one intended to examine the safety and the other to evaluate the efficacy of the dietary supplement in treating erectile dysfunction.

In the safety study, 15 healthy men at a mean age of 35.3 years took the dietary supplement, EDiSON for eight weeks and adverse events were recorded daily.

In the efficacy study, among 14 men diagnosed with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction, eight took the dietary supplement and six were given placebo.  The primary outcome was the quality of life assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function-5 or IIEF-5 questionnaire.

The first study indicated that the dietary supplement did not cause any adverse effects and the second study showed that the supplement led to a significant improvement pf IIEF-5 at four and eight weeks of the intervention, compared to the baseline.

Researchers concluded “Our initial findings support the safety of the EDiSON dietary supplement. The results from the randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial support the use of the EDiSON dietary supplement for the treatment of mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction." (david Liu)
