“The Environmental Working Group, a Washington-based advocacy outfit, has a reputation for using data to shake up the status quo... Now EWG has focused on the grocery aisles.” |
Everybody’s talking about it.
EWG’s groundbreaking release of EWG’s Food Scores: Rate Your Plate earlier this week has already helped tens of thousands of consumers like you find out what’s really in their food.
You’ll be astounded to see how some of your favorite foods rank and how truly ubiquitous sugar is across supermarket shelves.
Nearly 60 percent of the foods in EWG’s database contain at least one form of added sugar, and in some food categories added sugar is shockingly pervasive. Take granola bars: EWG found that 92 percent of granola and trail mix bars in the database contain added sugars. In some cases, almost a third of the bar’s weight is sugar!

This new consumer tool is the most comprehensive food database available today. Its scoring system factors in not only nutrition, but also ingredient concerns – such as potentially harmful food additives and toxic contaminants – as well as processing. You’ll also be able to see if your foods are certified GMO free, organic and so much more.
EWG’s Food Scores aims to bring you beyond the label to show you what’s really in your food and help guide you to safer, healthier and greener alternatives. Have you checked out how your favorite cereals or snacks score?
