The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just gave us an early holiday “surprise” by approving Aquabounty’s genetically engineered (GE) salmon – the first-ever GE animal to be approved for human consumption. This decision threatens the very survival of our native salmon populations, and could have unknown health impacts on humans.

With your past support and actions, Center for Food Safety has been able to prevent the approval of GE salmon for more than ten years. Unfortunately, FDA has decided to finally move forward with this dangerous plan.

Now, the only way to stop GE fish is through litigation. CFS is ready to fight back and sue the FDA challenging its approval of these untested, unlabeled, and unwanted GE salmon – will you support us in this critical legal work?

Imagine a world where GE salmon take over our oceans, rivers, and streams. These fast-growing manufactured fish would outcompete and wipe-out our treasured native salmon. Salmon fishing communities would be devastated and our marine environment would be forever altered. With today’s FDA approval, this scenario could soon be reality.

We need your help now, David. Will you make a donation today to help us keep up this important fight to keep GE salmon out of our waters?

FDA ignored millions of Americans and more than 40 members of Congress who have expressed vocal opposition to this approval. Two million people filed public comments with the FDA in opposition to this action, the largest number of comments the FDA has ever received on an action.

We can’t let them get away with ignoring the public. That’s why we’re taking them to court – and we need you to stand with us.

Each year, an estimated two million salmon escape from open-water net pens into the North Atlantic. FDA’s approval of GE salmon could be the last blow to our wild salmon stocks, currently on the brink of extinction. To make matters worse, the human health impacts of eating GE fish are completely unknown.

CFS continues to be on the front lines to stop the approval of this GE fish. Please support our lawsuit and advocacy work to prevent GE salmon from invading our waters.

Thank you for your support,
the Center for Food Safety team
