ScoringAg has delivered a mitigating response for the deadly citrus greening disease (HLB). Using the science of thermotherapy ScoringAg has invented and built a commercial grove TreeSteamer© machine.
Citrus Greening (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus) is one of the most serious citrus plant diseases in the world. The fatal citrus greening disease is a bacterial disease that destroys citrus tree production and eventually kills the trees.
Researchers are still working on solutions to kill the bacteria, like nanotechnology, new chemicals or GMO trees that need to be tested and approved to have an available product in years from now. Some may be not be available for the commercial production because of negative environmental impact or the fruits do no fit for human consumption or animal feed.
All different spraying efforts used so far world wide did not work. HLB has wiped out several growing regions in the world and decimated the Florida citrus industry since 2005. No chemical so far could save the trees or stop the loss of production. In some cases spraying and good fertilization helps prolongs the livability time of the diseased trees.
Wasps as used in the organic production may decimate the psyllids but do not kill the bacteria that kill the trees. The disease can kill a citrus tree within 3 to 5 years as the bacteria is moving 10 cm (4") a week. The ideal growing temperature for greening is 21° - 29.5° C (70 - 85° F). New plantings don't live long enough to make money for the growers, as they get infected as soon as they are planted in the groves.
ScoringAg's TreeSteamer© heat treats the trees immediately having a lowering effect on pre-harvest fruit drop and slowing the trees from dying. It is a ready to use machine, affordable and environmental friendly that can be used in the commercial citrus industry, conventional or organic.
The TreeSteamer© will suppress the HLB bacteria by exposing the bacteria in the tree to heat greater than 107° F for 20 seconds or more while not hurting the growing citrus tree and its fruit. This steam process will help abate the large loses attributed to pre-season fruit drop. This reduction of HLB bacteria affected by live wet steam will help the citrus grower produce a normal crop of oranges and put Florida back to producing 80% of the US orange juice crop.
ScoringAg-Equipment has different models of the TreeSteamer© depending on the size of groves and trees. The pull type model can do batch and continuous flow travel across the groves while the tractor mounted model will do single or a batch of trees. The pull-type TreeSteamer can cover 1000 acres or more a season and has different size steam tunnels for younger trees and also older groves. The timely manufacturing building speed of the TreeSteamer© by ScoringAg will save Florida's citrus industry over the next couple years. See a machine video online at ScoringAg-Equipment.com.
