Sunday Aug 31, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- A new study suggests taking forskolin/rolipram supplements may prevent obesity or weight gain in people who follow a high fat diet. The study finds both forskolin and rolipram can reduce weight gain in rats fed a high fat diet, but the combinational treatment with forskolin and rolipram is more effective in preventing diet-induced obesity than the two individual anti-obesity supplements.
Evidence from the study indicates both forskolin and rolipram stimulate lipolysis or fat hydrolysis and inhibit weight gain by increasing cAMP levels. Serum concentrations of cAMP and free fatty acids are found significantly higher in rats that were fed the high fat diet supplemented with either single anti-obesity agent or both supplements.
The study was conducted by Aysun Toker, M.D and colleagues at Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Turkey. (David Liu, PHD)
