Advanced Healthcare Symposium Features Kathy McNamara, Government Expert Witness, in Halifax and Tuomey Cases

Healthcare valuation and consulting experts seeking help in navigating the treacherous regulatory landscape of healthcare can’t afford to miss an in-depth symposium this December presented by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts™ (NACVA®) and the Consultants’ Training Institute™ (CTI™).  The Advanced Healthcare Valuation and Consulting Symposium will be held December 12–13, 2014, in San Diego, CA at the Solamar Hotel.

Advanced Healthcare Valuation and Consulting Symposium
The Advanced Healthcare Valuation and Consulting Symposium will be held on Fridayand Saturday, December 12–13th, 2014, and features eight different sessions over the two days.

The keynote session includes an interview with the U.S. government’s chief valuation expert, Kathy McNamara, CPA, from several recent high-profile cases, including theTuomey and Halifax cases.  Other sessions will address the fair market value implications of health systems losing money on employed physicians as well as an advanced analysis of fair market value compensation issues arising under the Stark group practice definition.   The Symposium will also include a session on valuing healthcare brands.  Another session will discuss how valuators play a vital role in the anatomy of a deal.

This engaging Symposium will allow attendees to be part of several advanced panel discussions and debates, including one discussion devoted to the  controversial subject of how to value physician practices that will feature some of the main players in the profession joining together to exchange ideas and debate the issues.  Panel discussions will focus on subjects such as fair market value problems with ancillary services in valuations of physician compensation and medical practices and the valuation implications of new reimbursement models for healthcare facilities and physicians.

“Healthcare is the largest, fastest-growing, and most complex industry in the U.S. It is undergoing accelerating change as the industry implements new payment models focused on the quality of service rather than the quantity,” states Advanced Healthcare Valuation and Consulting Symposium Co-Chair Richard Romero, MBA, CVA, CHFP, PAHM, with CBIZ Valuation Group, LLC.  “Transformation in how U.S. healthcare is regulated, taxed, accessed, delivered, and reimbursed has created a myriad of opportunities for business valuation and financial forensics analysts to support the business arrangements and operations of healthcare entities.”

“Besides being   the largest and fastest-growing industry in the United States, healthcare is also one of the most complex.  One of the main contributors to this complexity is the regulatory environment.  Healthcare regulations govern most aspects of the industry, including business transactions.  In fact, most transactions have to comply with a unique definition of fair market value.  Meeting this definition drives a large portion of the valuation work in the industry.  But healthcare regulators think about fair market value in ways that depart from traditional appraisal methodology.  The industry is also undergoing a major change in its revenue model, as we move away from paying for the volumes of healthcare services to paying for the quality of those services," states Timothy Smith, CPA, ABV, with American Appraisal, co-chair of the Advanced Healthcare Valuation and Consulting Symposium.
