Dear Organic Consumer,

If Hillary Clinton runs for president of the U.S. in 2016, Monsanto will be right by her side. Unless we change her mind.

On June 25, Clinton spoke for more than an hour at the BIO International Convention in San Diego, Calif. The presumed frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016, and future grandmother, reaffirmed her support for Monsanto and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and urged the audience to put a more positive spin on GMOs.

“Genetically modified’ sounds Frankensteinish. ‘Drought resistance’ sounds really – something you want. So how do you create a different vocabulary to talk about what it is you’re trying to help people do?”

We don’t need a “different vocabulary.” What we need are politicians who, unlike Clinton, aren’t in bed with the biotech industry, and who support the will of the 93 percent of Americans who want mandatory labeling of foods containing GMOs.

In her speech, Clinton ignored the mounting scientific evidence that GMO agriculture, especially Monsanto’s Roundup and Dow’s 2,4-D, are destroying the environment and public health. She ignored the evidence of failed GMO crops and the growing problem of superweeds.

And she ignored the warning issued last year by the United Nations that we must replace today’s chemical-intensive monoculture model of GMO agriculture with sustainable, carbon-sequestering, regenerative agriculture, if we want to turn around global warming.

If Clinton continues to support Monsanto, she will alienate a wide swath of the voter population who reject Monsanto’s destructive, monopolistic GMO empire.

The same will be true for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who late last year told us that while he supports states’ rights to label GMOs, he would not oppose federal legislation that would overturn state GMO labeling laws. Huh?

That will leave consumers with one choice: Sen Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a staunch supporter of GMO labeling laws.

Scientists, medical professionals and every individual, like you, who has studied the impact of Monsanto’s reckless and ruinous assault on public and environmental health, is calling for change. Before it’s too late.

It’s time for Hillary Clinton to do the same.

Thank you!
