David,

July 2014 marks a huge milestone for our movement.

A few weeks ago the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced that no more genetically engineered (GE) crops or bee-toxic pesticides (known as “neonics”) will be used in National Wildlife Refuges across the country, over 150 million acres of federal land.

The significance of this decision can’t be overstated: FWS is the first federal agency to restrict the use of GE crops and neonicotinoids in farming in the U.S.

This is a long overdue step towards preserving our native ecosystems and their plants, bees, birds, aquatic animals, and other wildlife from the harmful effects of GE crops and pesticide use. And they show that our grassroots and legal muscle is a force to be reckoned with - even for a powerful federal agency.

This momentous decision did not happen by accident. For the past decade, CFS has spearheaded no less than five separate lawsuits challenging these harmful practices on wildlife refuge regions across the country, and stopping them, region by region.  Because of our successful legal actions, courts have concluded that GE crops on refuges endanger the very spaces and species FWS is tasked with protecting. We have filed nationwide legal petitions demanding the FWS stop the practice nationally. And with our partners, we have spent a decade watchdogging industry and the government, and undertaking countless administrative actions and campaigning efforts towards this very goal.

Grassroots supporters like you are a big part of why we’ve been able to achieve this significant victory. But we’re not done. Not by a long shot.

A $5 contribution from you today will be put to immediate use in taking on the other government agencies and corporations behind these dangerous practices.

This very minute we’re locked in an epic court battle to hold the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency accountable for its failure to protect pollinators from these bee-toxic pesticides. And we’re always there every step of the way to challenge the approval of new “pesticide promoting” GE crops.

We’re up against some powerful organizations with deep pockets. But too much is at stake for us to back down. And as the FWS decision proves, with your help, we can take any of them on….and WIN.

Thanks for fighting with us,
