Media registration open for APEC Oceans-Related Ministerial Meeting

Xiamen, China, 23 July 2014 – Media registration is open for the APEC Oceans-Related Ministerial Meeting, to be hosted by China in the southeastern coastal city of Xiamen.
Background: ensuring ocean sustainability, economic benefits
APEC economies are the world’s largest producers and consumers of aquaculture and capture fishery products. They also share one ocean – the Pacific – which connects nearly three billion people, diverse markets and global trade flows, and the livelihoods of tens of millions but faces challenges ranging from the over exploitation of resources to the effects of climate change. The complex, trans-boundary nature of ocean and coastal issues are a further consideration.
APEC Ministers will take joint actions to ensure the health, sustainability and economic benefits of the region’s oceans. Focus areas include improving coastal and marine ecosystem conservation and disaster resilience; the role of oceans in food security and associated trade; oceans management and industry development through marine science and technology; and partnership towards a “blue economy” that supports higher quality growth across the Pacific.

To register, please email AOMM4press@163.com to request a media registration form. Complete the form and return it to the same email address. Successfully accredited press will receive a confirmation letter and additional meeting information in due course.
On-site registration is not applicable for media.
