By Maria CendejasTexas Governor Rick Perry signed into a law that says it requires that all college student need to get a meningitis vaccine. It takes effect in the beginning of spring semester of 2012 to all the students that are enrolled in private and public schools, and universities across Texas. In 2009, state of Texas had only 34 reported cases of meningitis among young people between the ages of 15-29. Gov. Perry, the Texas Medical Association and several state senators spoke to support the new bill, S.B. 1107, which expands the government's reach into the personal health choices of Texans. But rather than continue to give students the option to evaluate the facts and decide for themselves whether or not they should get the vaccine, both the Texas state government and the TMA have decided to force it on everyone.
