Keep Monsanto Running Scared
A Center for Food Safety fundraising appeal argues Americans eat genetically engineered food without knowing it, cites more than 90 percent public support for labels and Vermont's newly signed labeling law, and asks readers to donate toward state and federal labeling campaigns.

Imagine cooking dinner for your family in a pitch black kitchen. Imagine eating your next meal with a blindfold tied around your eyes. How would you feel? Cheated? Angry? Scared?
Not surprisingly, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, Monsanto, and their allies in the biotech industry are trying to squelch this momentum by any means possible. That’s why they backed the introduction of what we’re calling the “Deny Americans the Right-to-Know” (DARK) act. The DARK act would block any federal or state action to require labels for genetically engineered foods. This is the biotech industry’s attempt to preemptively “kill” states’ rights on this issue and any and all progress on GE labeling. Will you support our work to stop the biotech industry from stealing your right to know?
With GE labeling bills already passed in Vermont, Connecticut, and Maine, and on the horizon in California, New York, Oregon and several other states, the biotech industry is clearly scared of what’s ahead. They know the food movement’s power is growing and that labeling is not a matter of “if,” but “when.” Help us keep Monsanto and the biotech industry running scared!
