Saturday May 17, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- An early study suggests using a combination of phentermine resin in a dose of 15 mg in the morning and fenfluramine hydrochloride in a dose of 30 mg before the evening meal per day provided better weight effects, compared with using individual weight loss compounds or placebo.
For the double-blind, controlled clinical trial, 81 obese people were assigned to take either phentermine resin in a dose of 30 mg per day in the morning, or fenfluramine hydrochloride in a dose of 20 mg three times a day, or a combination of phentermine resin in a dose of 15 mg in the morning and fenfluramine hydrochloride in a dose of 30 mg per day before the evening meal, or placebo for 24 weeks.
Obese people who received the combination lost 8.4 kg of body weight, compared to 4.4 kg in each of those taking placebo, 7.5 kg in each of those taking fenfluramine and 10 kg in each of those taking phentermine alone.
But fewer adverse effects were observed among those who took the combination of weight loss compounds, compared with those taking one weight loss compound alone.
