Advocates for Safe Food and Water to Protest TPP and Fast Track Outside the U.S. Trade Rep. Office
Washington, D.C.—On Tuesday December 9, nearly 100 Food & Water Watch organizers from around the nation will rally outside the U.S. Trade Representative’s office to protest the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Fast Track legislation that could hasten the process. The group strongly opposes the TPP, a controversial trade deal that many consumers believe will undermine basic consumer rights, food safety and local sovereignty.

Background: Another round of highly secretive trade negotiations are set to take place in Washington, D.C. the week of December 8. Trade representatives from twelve countries will take a stab at finalizing the guidelines that could become the Trans-Pacific Partnership, setting the stage for a corporate power grab that would threaten the environment, public health, food safety, domestic jobs and local sovereignty while pushing an agenda favored by multinational corporations throughout the Pacific Rim.
Food & Water Watch works to ensure the food, water and fish we consume is safe, accessible and sustainable. So we can all enjoy and trust in what we eat and drink, we help people take charge of where their food comes from, keep clean, affordable, public tap water flowing freely to our homes, protect the environmental quality of oceans, force government to do its job protecting citizens, and educate about the importance of keeping shared resources under public control.
