Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday announced a recall for 1.43 million vehicles due to defective air bags and another 2.87 million due to dysfunctional fuel emissions controls.

Toyota said the defects that triggered the recall did result in any injuries or fatalities.  Nearly one million of vehicles have both types of defects.

The defective air bags were used in 743,000 vehicles including Prius hybrids, Prius plug-ins and Lexus CT200h, manufactured between October 2008 and April 2012 with the majority sold in North America and Europe.

The problem with the faulty air bags is that a small crack in some inflators may expand in a way to cause the air bags to partially inflate.

The defective fuel emissions controls were used in more than 2.5 million of vehicles including Prius, the Auris, Zelas, Corolla, Lucas, Lexus HS250h and CT200h, manufactured between April 2006 and Aug. 2015 with the majority sold in Japan and Europe.   None of these vehicles were sold in North America.

The problem with the fuel emission controls is that cracks can develop on emission control parts leading to fuel leaks.
