Friday Feb 6, 2015 (foodconsumer.org) -- A case report in the Nov-Dec 2014 issue of Journal of International Oral Health suggests that the painkiller ibuprofen may boost sexual drive or libido and erectile activity.Doctors from Al-Farabi College for Dentistry and Nursing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia reported that a man aged 26 had experienced some "side effects" of ibuprofen. The man experienced the side effects after he took ibuprofen for pain control post restorative treatment for his teeth.   Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen are commonly used for pain control in dentistry.Reported side effects associated with Ibuprofen include gastrointestinal and cardiovascular events, altered renal function, and adverse effects on blood pressure, hepatic injury, and platelet inhibition.  But increased libido and erectile function associated with ibuprofen were rarely reported. Doctors could not explain why ibuprofen boosted libido and erectile function in the man.
