Dear Sirs,

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lenny Alfaro and I live in Bethel, CT. I have been contacted by an old friend, an important and prestigious International reporter from Lima, Peru: Mr. Ricardo Sanchez-Serra. Kindly I am adding his professional background at the end of this page for your review. Unfortunately he is not fluent in the English language, this is the reason I am writing to you.

The purpose of this letter is to confirm to you of the negative changes in the Peruvian legislation regarding the use and import of GMO’S and the need of assistance to fight this legislation and promote and preserve bio-diversity. As you know, Peru is one of the eighth centers of global mega diversity and is the center of origin and domestication of 162 species of important cultivators of food and agriculture. In brief, Peru's climate and different geographical zones make it an important agricultural nation. Of all domesticated plants, Peru has provided the world with  the potato, which is the most important. There are more than 3,000 varieties of potatoes found in Peru, making it the world's genetic center for the crop. Other important crops include sugarcane, coffee, and cotton, with Peru producing 2 of the world's finest strains of cotton: Pima and Tanguis. In addition to these staples, the UNDP estimates that the Andean and jungle food baskets include important vegetables and fruits that are relatively unknown, but high in vitamins and proteins. These include camu-camu, a small jungle fruit with the highest known levels of vitamin C, and quinoa, a highland grain.

Mr. Ricardo Sanchez Serra is an experienced reporter and a Member of the foreign press in Peru. I am making this request on his behalf. He is particularly interested in obtaining information such as scientific studies, statistics, reports, documentaries, and any other information concerning the danger and negative effects of GMOS in human health, and the environment. In his capacity, he will be able to publish all of this in the media; mainly newspapers and radio stations nationwide. He would also appreciate any recommendations or an interview you could offer him.

We need to express solidarity with the farmers, indigenous and professional organizations who have voiced their protest against the above legislation. Without adequate information, millions of people and a great amount of land are in danger in Peru. That is why we kindly urge you to provide your professional assistance. Your support will make such a difference in the lives of millions of citizens in Peru.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Lenin Alfaro
