A study report published in 1980 in the prestigious scientific journal Science suggests that ozone may be enlisted to treat various forms of cancer including lung cancer, breast cancer and uterine cancer.
The study shows that when human cancer cells from lung, breast and uterine tumors were exposed to the air with 0.3 to 0.8 parts per million (ppm) of ozone for eight days, the cancer growth was inhibited in a dose-dependent manner.
At 0.3 to 0.5 ppm of ozone, the cancer growth was inhibited by 40 and 60% respectively. When cancer cells were exposed to the air with 0.8 ppm of zone, the cancer growth was 90% inhibited while the control cell growth was inhibited by less than 50%. The control cells (human lung diploid fibroblasts) were used to see how ozone would affect the healthy cells.
The study indicates that ozone does have some effect on healthy cells. Does that mean ozone should not be used to treat cancer? In fact, some alternative doctors have been using this therapy to treat cancers and other illnesses for many years. But ozone is not allowed to use in the U.S.
