In the U.S., the five-year survival rate for patients diagosed with stage 4 kidney cancer is 8%, according to the American Cancer Society.  The number in UK is 5%.  In cases that the disease has spread to distant organs like the liver, lung, brain and bone/spine, the survival rate could be close to zero.   Virtually no effective treatment can help increase the odds of survival even though patients with this type of cancer may still be given chemotherapy or even radiation therapy, which are not intended to cure the disease but for the purpose of palliative care.

A man who was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer has thus far survived stage 4 kidney cancer for seven years.  He underwent surgery twice to remove kidney cancer and a tumor mass in the lungs.  But he did not take any treatments other than the surgery.  Instead after diagnosis, he started to follow a modified diet and using some functional foods and supplements.  Now he is still healthy and cancer free.   This case indicates that a person who diagnosed with a terminal disease like state 4 kidney cancer does not have to die from the disease if he is as lucky as the man in the case.
