Pooling 18 cohorts covering over a million women and 33,380 breast cancers, researchers found the highest intakes of alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and lutein/zeaxanthin went with 13-16% lower risk of ER-negative breast cancer. Beta-cryptoxanthin tracked with lower risk of both types.

Vitamin C, E cut breast cancer recurrence and death risk
Among 2,264 breast cancer patients in the Life After Cancer Epidemiology cohort, frequent vitamin C and E use was linked to roughly 30% lower odds of recurrence and of death from any cause, while frequent use of combination carotenoids was tied to higher mortality.

The Most Powerful Nutrient Ever Discovered for Eye Health
Dr. Mercola profiles astaxanthin, a carotenoid made by the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, citing claims that it scavenges free radicals 65 times more powerfully than vitamin C and quenches singlet oxygen 550 times more effectively than vitamin E.
