Female rats whose mothers got methyl nutrients - methionine, choline, folate and vitamin B12 - before and after birth had fewer tumors, smaller tumor volume and longer survival after exposure to a carcinogen. The same nutrients slowed human breast cancer cells in culture.

Choline, betaine may cut breast cancer death risk
Tracking 1,508 breast cancer patients on Long Island, researchers report in FASEB Journal that higher choline and betaine intake accompanied lower all-cause and breast cancer death in dose-dependent fashion. They call the nutrients a promising prevention strategy.

Low levels of blood choline means high risk for neural tube defects
Comparing blood from 80 women who bore children with anencephaly or spina bifida to 409 who did not, Stanford researchers found women with the lowest choline levels were 2.4 times more likely to have a child with a neural tube defect. The highest levels carried the lowest risk.
