Mercola argues that systematic reviews find little evidence flu vaccines prevent flu, and points instead to vitamin D, preferably from sun exposure. He frames colds and flu as viral attacks on an already impaired immune system and lists zinc, green tea, vitamin C and chicken soup as treatments.

Zinc lozenges shorten common cold duration
Pooling trials in The Open Respiratory Medicine Journal, Hemila found daily doses above 75 mg of zinc in lozenges shortened colds by 20 to 42%, while trials using less than 75 mg showed no benefit. High doses taste bad but no long-term side effects have been reported.
Biotics
Probiotics may help prevent colds
In a Chinese trial of 326 children aged 3 to 5, those drinking milk with Lactobacillus had 53 percent fewer fevers and 41 percent fewer coughs than the placebo group, while those given Lactobacillus plus Bifidobacterium had 72 percent fewer fevers. Antibiotic use fell in both groups.
