The FDA warns that Stiff Nights, sold as an all-natural dietary supplement, contains sulfoaildenafil, similar to Viagra's active ingredient, which can interact with nitrates and push blood pressure dangerously low. The agency says the product is illegally marketed.

The Diabetes–Cancer Connection
For American Diabetes Month, AICR notes studies suggesting people with diabetes or signs of insulin resistance face higher risk of some cancers, especially colon and pancreatic. A 2006 JNCI study found men with the highest insulin levels nearly three times as likely to develop colon cancer.

Study Reveals Breast Cancer Changes After its Spread
A study in Annals of Oncology of 211 women whose breast cancer had reached the lymph nodes found up to 40 percent of the tumors changed form, which may mean treatment has to change too. Researcher Brett Hall also questions giving tamoxifen to women over 50.

Swine Flu -- One of the Most Massive Cover-ups in American History
Dr. Russell Blaylock argues the H1N1 pandemic was overstated, writing that vaccine makers fueled the fear and cut deals with WHO worth billions, and that pregnant women were not at special risk. He says his sources include the CDC, NIH and the New England Journal of Medicine.

UN says $39 billion can save 5.3 million children
The UN says a $39 billion plan could prevent 5.3 million child deaths from pneumonia in developing countries by 2015, Reuters reported. WHO and UNICEF want the six-year plan run in 68 poor countries, promoting exclusive breastfeeding, wider vaccination and better access to treatment.

Raising Diabetes Awareness
For American Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association takes on common myths: that diabetes isn't serious, that every overweight person gets type 2, that sugar causes it, and that people with diabetes can't eat sugar or starch. Half its survey respondents scored a failing grade.

Common Links in Swine Flu Deaths...
A CDC study of 36 children who died of H1N1 between April and August found six had no chronic health conditions, but all had a co-occurring bacterial infection, most often Staphylococcus aureus. Mercola argues those coexisting infections deserve far closer scrutiny.

Key Flu Indicators 10-30-2009
CDC's flu indicators for October 18-24, 2009 show doctor visits for influenza-like illness climbing steeply and running above the peak of many regular seasons, with hospitalization rates highest among children aged 0 to 4. The post also promotes a CDC H1N1 texting pilot.

CDC's report for October 18-24, 2009: 42.1% of specimens tested positive for influenza, every subtyped influenza A virus was 2009 H1N1, 22 influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported, and 48 states reported geographically widespread activity.

Amnesia: Types, Causes, and Symptoms
Prompted by a teenager found in Times Square unable to recall her name, the piece distinguishes simple amnesia, which follows a head or brain injury, from dissociative amnesia, a mental illness usually stemming from trauma or abuse that can run in families and recur.

10 Ways to Address Your Root Causes of Infertility -- Naturally
Writing for Mercola, Iva Keene says 1 in 6 couples now have trouble conceiving and that men are affected as often as women. She argues natural treatment should address every body system, since sub-clinical conditions combine to lower the odds, and starts with cutting toxic chemical exposure.

CBS Reveals that Swine Flu Cases Seriously Overestimated
Dr. Mercola relays a three-month CBS News investigation reporting that most people diagnosed with “probable” H1N1 likely did not have that virus, or any flu. CBS says the CDC told states in late July 2009 to stop testing and counting individual cases because the epidemic was already confirmed.

Latest diabetes figures paint grim global picture (press release)
The International Diabetes Federation put the worldwide diabetes total at 285 million, up from about 30 million in 1985, and projects more than 435 million by 2030. Low- and middle-income countries bear the brunt, and more than half of those affected are aged 20 to 60.
