A reader's letter describing Chinese Academy of Sciences research on the iron chelator TSC24 against liver cancer, followed by the writer's own “ferromagnetic theory of cancer” and predictions about iron deprivation.

NEW Studies Reveal Alarming Hidden Cause of Breast Cancer
Russell Blaylock reviews studies finding higher free iron and ferritin in the breast ductal fluid of cancer patients, with ferritin five times higher and aluminum about twice as high. He argues iron released from its binding proteins matters more than iron intake.

Too much iron linked to high risk of Alzheimer's disease
Researchers in Argentina reported in the International Journal of Alzheimer's Disease that accumulation of copper, zinc and iron is linked to several neurodegenerative diseases, with high iron consistently found in the brains of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's patients.

Iron rich foods
A USDA-sourced table ranking iron-rich foods by milligrams per standard serving, from canned clams at 23.8 mg through oysters, organ meats, fortified cereals, soybeans, pumpkin seeds and beans, with the calories in each portion.
Food Chemicals
Foods high in iron
A primer on iron: what it does in oxygen transport and energy metabolism, who runs short of it, and how supplements or hereditary conditions tip into overload. Beef, oysters, shrimp and tuna lead the animal sources; molasses, beans, lentils, tofu and cashews the plant ones.

Iron: the new cancer killer?
German Research Center scientists report that flooding lymphoma cells with iron sets off free radicals and oxidative stress severe enough to kill them. With Mannheim University Hospitals they studied the approach in Sezary's disease and in lymphomas that resist other treatment.
