A Neurology study of 658 dementia-free people aged 65 and over found the 174 with silent strokes had smaller hippocampi and scored worse on memory tests. The authors say the strokes and hippocampal volume were linked to memory loss separately, supporting stroke prevention.

Diet
Healthy diet helps memory, protects against disease
Forty-four overweight adults aged 50 to 75 spent four weeks on an anti-inflammatory diet of oily fish, barley, soy protein, blueberries, almonds, cinnamon and vinegar. LDL cholesterol fell 33 percent, blood lipids 14 percent, blood pressure 8 percent and a clotting marker 26 percent.
Food
High fat diet impairs memory and physical performance
Rats fed a high-fat diet for nine days did worse on maze and treadmill tests than rats on a low-fat diet, a British study published by FASEB found. Cambridge physiologist Andrew Murray was cited as finding similar effects in people, but those results are unpublished.
