Marking Poison Prevention Week, CDC reports 27,531 US deaths from unintentional poisoning in 2006 and 732,316 emergency department visits in 2008. Drugs cause 96% of the deaths, more than half of those prescription medicines, and about 71,000 children a year are treated for medication poisoning.
