Friday June 13, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- One third of male infertility has no known cause or they are idiopathic, according to a recent review in Seminars in Reproductive Medicine.  For these patients, empirical medical treatment with or without assisted reproductive techniques is common.  This type of treatment includes hormonal treatment including gonadotropins, anti-estrogens and aromatase inhibitors and nutritional therapy including supplementation with carnitine, lycopene, glutathione and vitamin E, according to the review.  Vitamin supplements are important. But other supplements can also be important.  Garlic, vitamin C, fish oil, peanuts or arginine among other things can also be helpful.  (David Liu, PHD)Gudeloglu A, Brahmbhatt JV, Parekattil SJ.   Medical management of male infertility in the absence of a specific etiology.  Seminars Reproductive Medicine 2014 Jul;32(4):313-8. doi: 10.1055/s-0034-1375184.
