Men and women with vitamin C deficiency are at higher risk for fetal hemorrhagic stroke, according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology.
The study by French scientists suggests having daily intake of vitamin C which is found in citrus and other fruits and vegetables can prevent at least one type of stroke.
For the study, scientists measured vitamin C levels in the blood samples from 65 men and women who had already suffered an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke and 65 people as controls who had never had any stroke.
The study found men and women who did not experience strokes had high levels of vitamin C in their blood.
Vitamin C is essential for humans. Early studies have suggested high doses of vitamin C is IV-administered vitamin C can help treat cancer. High doses of vitamin C can also prevent damage to the body induced by radiation. (David Liu, PHD)
