Thursday June 19, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with oral diseases including periodontitis, caries, and tooth loss, which are common in Germany.A new study suggests that maintaining sufficient concentrations of serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25OHD) can reduce risk of tooth loss.Specifically, thw study shows that after adjustment for multiple confounders, each 10-µg of vitamin D per L increase of serum 25(OH)D was correlated with a 13% decreased risk of tooth loss. But vitamin D supplementation did not seem to protect against caries progression.
