Dear Readers,

“SUPPORT THE STATES THAT GUARD OUR PLATES”

MAJOR VICTORY ON THE GMO FRONT! For the first time in U.S. history, a state House of Representatives passed a bill requiring all genetically engineered foods to be labeled!  Vermont’s House voted overwhelmingly 107-37 to give us the right to choose. Many other states which currently have active GMO labeling bills also have an excellent chance of following in Vermont’s footsteps…but for one giant roadblock:

MONSANTO HAS OPENLY THREATENED TO SUE THEM!
That’s right. Last year, in spite of widespread support for GMO labeling bills in Vermont and Connecticut, their leaders blocked the bills’ passage due to fears of an expensive, corporate-sponsored lawsuit. VT Governor Peter Shumlin stated: “I agree with those who advocate for clear labeling of genetically modified foods...(but) I don’t think it is fair to ask Vermonters to bear the burden of the cost of those legal challenges.”

So here’s our idea:  Let’s rally around these states and their committed leaders by pledging one million dollars toward a special legal defense fund, in anticipation that Monsanto will challenge all state labeling legislation in the courts. No need to pay anything right now, only to pledge a generous amount (or whatever you can afford) for when and if it’s needed. Be sure to ask your friends and family to do the same!

The time is ripe to show a united front! Let’s act collectively now to safeguard our right to choose a healthy, non-GMO food supply and to enjoy full disclosure on all food labels…for the sake of our families, our children, our future.

Please make your pledge today.  Pledge to Support States Against Monsanto’s Lawsuits to Stop GMO Labeling.
