Zinc oxide is toxic
Researchers tested zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles at 50 to 500 ppm and found both cytotoxic to human red blood cells and genotoxic to lymphocytes, with damage rising by concentration. Zinc oxide proved more genotoxic at higher levels.

Trans fat linked to elevated breast cancer risk
A 2007 American Journal of Epidemiology study of 19,934 French women followed for seven years found those in the highest quintile of circulating trans-monounsaturated fatty acids were 75% more likely to develop breast cancer; cis-monounsaturated fats showed no such link.

Prenatal serum lead leads to worse birth outcomes
In a UK birth cohort reported in BJOG, mean maternal serum lead at 5 ug/dl or higher doubled the risk of preterm delivery, and higher lead levels correlated with lower birthweight, smaller head circumference and shorter crown-heel length.

Fluoride may damage female reproductive system
Female mice fed a fluoride solution for five weeks suffered damage to ovarian architecture, lower expression of genes governing oocyte formation and growth, and reduced DNA methylation, leaving fewer mature oocytes and lower fertility. The study used high fluoride concentrations.

Newsweek's Coverage of the Cochrane Review on Fluoridation
Newsweek covered the Cochrane Collaboration's fluoridation review, which found only three post-1975 studies of sufficient quality on population-wide effectiveness. Those did not show a statistically significant cut in cavities, while the review did find fluoridation raises fluorosis rates.
