A 13-year-old with dental fluorosis is suing Nestle U.S.A., Nestle Waters North America and Gerber, claiming fluoridated bottled water discolored her teeth and the companies failed to warn buyers. Her mother seeks the cost of covering up the damage, put at over $100,000 over a lifetime.

Water fluoridation linked to osteosarcoma (PR)
The Fluoride Action Network argues that Chester Douglass's Journal of Dental Research paper cannot refute Bassin's 2006 finding of a 500% to 600% higher osteosarcoma risk in boys exposed at ages 6 to 8, because bone fluoride levels say nothing about timing.

FDA: Fluoride Supplements Never Found Safe or Effective
A fluoridation opposition group notes that National Library of Medicine drug information now warns sodium fluoride 'has not been found by FDA to be safe and effective,' and cites reviews tying supplements to higher dental fluorosis risk with no benefit to primary teeth.

A town hall meeting and debate on Fluoridegate takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 1 at St. Stephen's Cathedral in San Diego, with David Kennedy, DDS and Paul Connett, PhD on the panel. Bishop McKinney convened it over harm to minority children and other susceptible groups.

EPA sacrifices science to protect fluoridation (PR)
With 41% of US children aged 12 to 15 showing dental fluorosis, HHS proposed lowering the fluoridation level to 0.7 ppm while EPA released documents underpinning a new drinking-water goal. The writer argues EPA abandoned the science behind its safe reference dose.

Heroic New York City Legislator Introduces Bill to Stop Fluoridation (PR)
NYC Council Member Peter Vallone Jr. introduced Int 0463-2011 to prohibit adding fluoride to the city's water, and five colleagues signed on as co-sponsors. NYSCOF cites CDC figures that over 41 percent of adolescents have dental fluorosis, 4 percent of it severe.

50 reasons to oppose fluoridation
A lightly edited list from Paul Connett of St. Lawrence University setting out 50 arguments against water fluoridation, among them that unfluoridated Western European countries saw the same decline in decay and that fluoride acts topically rather than through swallowing.

EPA wants less fluoride in water, but do we need any of the chemical?
HHS and the EPA now recommend fluoridating water at 0.7 milligrams per liter rather than the old 0.7 to 1.2 range, with 30 days for public comment before the rule is final. The piece notes fluorosis, the Fluoride Action Network's list of concerns, and the long-running dispute.
