A new report finds genetically modified Atlantic salmon can breed with wild brown trout, and the hybrids grow about 80 percent faster with larger appetites. Lead author Krista Oke says that if the advantage holds in the wild, escaped hybrids could harm wild salmon populations.

Will Detection of Unapproved GMO Wheat Decimate US Economy?
USDA announced on May 29 that an unapproved Roundup Ready wheat strain, field tested by Monsanto between 1998 and 2005, was growing on an Oregon farm. Japan and Korea suspended US wheat orders, the EU ordered testing, and Washington and Kansas farmers have sued Monsanto.

GE Food & Your Health
The FDA requires neither labeling nor pre-market safety testing of genetically engineered foods, and in a 1998 lawsuit conceded it had made “no dispositive scientific findings” about their safety. The piece argues gene cassettes new to the human diet warrant extensive testing.

GM wheat found in an Oregon field
USDA says unapproved Roundup Ready wheat turned up in an Oregon field, and Japan, South Korea, the EU and China have raised concerns or curbed U.S. wheat imports. The Center for Food Safety wants a moratorium on open-air field trials of engineered crops.

Keep GE Salmon Off Our Tables
Center for Food Safety, Friends of the Earth and thirty other groups are asking grocers, seafood companies and restaurants to pledge not to sell genetically engineered salmon. Target, Giant Eagle, Meijer and H-E-B join more than 55 retailers who committed earlier.

Getting to the Root of How GMO Plants Harm Food Production and Your Health
Mercola interviews soil scientist Elaine Ingham, who says she was forced to resign from Oregon State after her research on genetically modified organisms threatened the university's biotech funding, and who now helps farmers assess the organisms their soil and plants depend on.

Pledge to Support States Against Monsanto’s Lawsuits to Stop GMO Labeling
An appeal for pledges toward a $1 million legal defense fund for states that pass GMO labeling laws, after Vermont's House voted 107-37 for labeling and Monsanto openly threatened to sue states that follow.

Oregon: Protect the NO GMO Vote!
An action alert asks Oregonians to urge their representatives to vote against SB 633, which would move control of local seed from communities to the state and block countywide GMO bans. It recounts Syngenta's admitted breach of the USDA's four-mile buffer for GE sugar beets.

End Climate Chaos: Boycott GMOs and Factory-Farmed Food
An essay argues that chemical-, energy- and GMO-intensive industrial agriculture and factory farms have stripped soil of its ability to sequester CO2, and that climate and farming conditions will keep deteriorating until US farmers and ranchers abandon that model.

Pig 26: Another GE? Another Deceit? Another Folly (Like Dolly)?
The Roslin Institute calls its Pig 26 genetically edited and says the animal may resist infections such as African swine fever, but the writer argues it is still engineered, leaves no detectable trace, and appeals to industry mainly as a route around current regulation and labeling.

Science Media Centre invents more GM "good news" stories
A critic accuses the Science Media Centre of manufacturing a GM news story out of Roslin Institute research and pushing it aggressively while staying out of view, calling that non-attributed promotion with a political and commercial agenda rather than impartial reporting.

10 reasons why we don’t need GM foods
An anti-GM leaflet argues that biofuel production, not scarcity, drove the 2008 food price spike, and that GM has raised the yield potential of no commercial crop, citing reduced yields in GM soya and quoting scientists who call the feed-the-world case a PR exercise.

Are You Eating This Popular Food Linked to Cancer?
Mercola reports on Argentina, where more than 18 million hectares of genetically engineered soy are sprayed with over 300 million liters of pesticide. A documentary and biologist Raul Montenegro blame glyphosate for rising birth defects and cancer; the studies are described as suggestive.

Monsanto just gave you one more reason
The Organic Consumers Association says Congress passed a rider letting Monsanto plant GMO crops even if a court or agency rules the planting illegal, and asks readers to donate toward its $500,000 pledge to Washington State’s I-522 labeling initiative.

Biotech Industry Ups Propaganda Efforts with Undercover Ambassadors?
After Monsanto helped defeat California's Proposition 37 on labeling genetically engineered food, CEO Hugh Grant told the Wall Street Journal the company is reconnecting with customers. Mercola argues the industry is also recruiting seemingly independent ambassadors to lobby for it quietly.
