The water and sanitation board in Snowmass, Colo., voted 3-2 to end fluoridation, with the majority citing possible long-term health effects and arguing fluoride should be a choice. Paul Connett will argue the same case at Denver's first public forum on fluoridation on July 29.

Are You Feeding a Brain Toxin to Your Babies?
The Fluoride Action Network has begun a billboard campaign in Fircrest and Tacoma, Washington asking parents whether they want their child drinking a neurotoxic chemical, citing 44 human studies it says link fluoride to lower IQ.

Prenatal serum lead leads to worse birth outcomes
In a UK birth cohort reported in BJOG, mean maternal serum lead at 5 ug/dl or higher doubled the risk of preterm delivery, and higher lead levels correlated with lower birthweight, smaller head circumference and shorter crown-heel length.

Fluoride may damage female reproductive system
Female mice fed a fluoride solution for five weeks suffered damage to ovarian architecture, lower expression of genes governing oocyte formation and growth, and reduced DNA methylation, leaving fewer mature oocytes and lower fertility. The study used high fluoride concentrations.

Newsweek's Coverage of the Cochrane Review on Fluoridation
Newsweek covered the Cochrane Collaboration's fluoridation review, which found only three post-1975 studies of sufficient quality on population-wide effectiveness. Those did not show a statistically significant cut in cavities, while the review did find fluoridation raises fluorosis rates.

Dow and Monsanto - EWG
An EWG fundraising appeal notes the World Health Organization calls 2,4-D “possibly carcinogenic to humans” and glyphosate a probable carcinogen, says the EPA approved Enlist Duo without studying how the two interact, and asks readers to help raise $25,000 for GMO labeling.

2015: A Bad Year for Fluoridation Gets Worse - newsletter 061915 from fluoridealert.org
A Fluoride Action Network newsletter calling 2015 a bad year for fluoridation, citing Stephen Peckham's UK thyroid paper, the Environmental Health study tying state fluoridation to ADHD prevalence, and a Cochrane review it says offers little convincing evidence of benefit.

Don't Miss This New Fluoridation Debate Video
Waterford became the 13th Irish council since early 2014 to call for an end to fluoridation; commissioners in Palatka, Florida rejected a fluoridation proposal; and Sullivan, Missouri councilors turned down $25,000 in state funding and ended the practice after 20 years.

Take Action! China and the GMO Tipping Point
A new campaign will distribute a Chinese-dubbed Genetic Roulette and urge China's leaders to ban glyphosate and stop importing GM crops. China takes about 20% of U.S. farm exports, and in 2014 cited “low public acceptance” in delaying a GM soybean approval.

WHO Findings on Glyphosate’s Carcinogenicity Should Be Enough To Halt Colombia’s Controversial U.S.-Backed Coca-Spraying Program
WOLA and Food & Water Watch want the U.S.-backed aerial spraying of glyphosate over Colombian coca fields stopped, citing a WHO panel's March finding that the herbicide is probably carcinogenic to humans. Colombia's Health Ministry has already recommended suspension.

New EWG report: Poisoned Legacy
Ten years after the EPA fined DuPont over its cover-up of C8's hazards, EWG reports that the mid-Ohio Valley fight continues. US C8 production has ended, but the replacement PFCs in food wrappers and coatings are largely untested and hidden as trade secrets.

Unhygienic Egg Production Behind Devastating Bird Flu in US
Bird flu has broken out in high-volume US egg operations, with 5 million birds to be killed in Iowa and the National Guard readied in Wisconsin. The piece blames crowded, intensive conditions: one worker per 250,000 hens, high ammonia, and debeaking a veterinarian says causes intense pain.

Listeria: What you need to know
Listeria grows even at refrigerator temperatures and turns up in deli meats and hot dogs, raw milk and soft cheeses made from it, refrigerated pates and smoked seafood, and raw sprouts. Incubation runs 3 to 70 days, and prompt antibiotics can cure it and protect a fetus.

Toxic Weed Killer Glyphosate Found in Breast Milk, Infant Formula
Media reports say glyphosate, which the World Health Organization classifies as probably carcinogenic to humans, has turned up in honey, breast milk and infant formula. EWG president Ken Cook blames the spread of genetically engineered corn and soy sprayed with the herbicide.

Are you eating an endocrine disruptor?
An EWG analysis identified propyl paraben, a preservative not permitted in food in the European Union, in at least 49 processed foods. EWG says it acts as a weak synthetic estrogen and has been reported to speed breast cancer cell growth, yet the FDA still treats it as safe.

The controversial drug in your dinner
Center for Food Safety is suing the FDA over its approval of eighteen ractopamine-based animal drugs, saying the growth additive is connected to downed animals, muscular tremors and aggression while its human and environmental effects remain poorly studied. It asks affected members to write in.

Is your wine tainted with carcinogenic arsenic
A California Superior Court lawsuit accuses 28 wineries, among them Franzia, Sutter Home, Charles Shaw and Beringer, of selling wines containing inorganic arsenic at up to 500% or more of the maximum acceptable daily intake without warning consumers, mostly cheap white and blush varietals.

Major Media Coverage & Harvard Prof. Calls For Lower Fluoride Levels
Newsweek covered a study in Environmental Health reporting that state rates of artificial water fluoridation in 1992 predicted state ADHD prevalence in 2003, 2007 and 2011 even after controlling for socioeconomic status. The authors describe it as an ecological association.
