The Center for Food Safety urges readers to press President Obama to block EPA approval of Dow's Enlist Duo, a mix of glyphosate and 2,4-D made for genetically engineered corn, soybeans and cotton, arguing more herbicide only escalates the arms race against superweeds.

243 chemicals have been recognized as carcinogens in the U.S.
HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell released the National Toxicology Program's 13th Report on Carcinogens, a congressionally mandated document identifying agents known or reasonably anticipated to cause cancer in humans. It carries 243 listings made since 1980 and replaces earlier editions.

HHS Releases 13th Report on Carcinogens
HHS added four substances to its Report on Carcinogens, which now holds 243 listings. It reclassified ortho-toluidine as a known human carcinogen and listed 1-bromopropane, cumene and pentachlorophenol as reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.

FluorideGate Deepens with Release of 2000 Pages of FOIA Documents
NYSCOF says 2,000 pages of emails obtained under freedom-of-information requests reveal a close relationship among the CDC's Oral Health Division, the American Dental Association and the Pew Foundation, and show them marginalizing people who raise health concerns.

Advanced glycation end products linked to chronic inflammation
A Brussels review of studies on advanced glycation end products found people on low-AGE diets had lower inflammation, while the rise on high-AGE diets was less pronounced. Nearly half of observational studies tied inflammation to dietary AGEs, which are high in fries and bakery products.

Silica nanoparticles may raise Alzheimer's disease risk
In human and mouse neuroblastoma cells, 15 nm silica nanoparticles cut cell viability, triggered apoptosis and raised reactive oxygen species, while increasing beta-amyloid deposits and tau phosphorylation, two hallmarks of Alzheimer's. The study tested cells, not people.

Silicon dioxide nanoparticles can damage multiple organs
Iranian researchers fed mice silicon dioxide nanoparticles 10 to 15 nanometers across and found significant changes in albumin, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, HDL, LDL and liver enzymes, with tissue damage visible in liver, kidney, lung and testis.

Is This Why So Many People Seem to Be Gluten Intolerant Today?
Dr. Stephanie Seneff argues glyphosate, widely used to harvest wheat, correlates with the rise in celiac disease more closely than its use on corn and soy, and that it damages gut flora. Mercola summarises her papers and her wider claims linking glyphosate to aluminium transport and autism.

Ergot alkaloids can stunt fetal growth
Pregnant ewes fed endophyte-infected tall fescue seed bore lambs weighing 37 percent less than those of unexposed ewes, with lighter organs and muscles. People are exposed to ergot alkaloids mainly through contaminated grains, especially rye.

Barbecue and Food Safety
With more than half of Americans grilling year round, this guide covers buying cold food last, bagging raw meat to stop drips, refrigerating perishables within two hours, thawing in the refrigerator, and marinating there rather than on the counter.

Can bovine leukemia virus cause cancer in humans?
Bovine leukemia virus infects most U.S. dairy herds and passes into raw milk. Sensitive assays found 39 to 44 percent of human samples positive for BLV antigens, and the virus can replicate in some people, but how humans acquire it and whether it causes disease remain unknown.

Plastic chemicals make humans more feminine
University of Michigan researchers tested more than 2,200 people from the 2011-12 NHANES survey and found greater phthalate exposure associated with significantly lower circulating testosterone, most notably in boys aged 6 to 12 and in men and women aged 40 to 60.
